Why Your Crypto Card Was Declined (And How To Fix It)

There's nothing more frustrating than a declined card at the checkout. Here is why it happens and how to resolve it quickly.

Insufficient Fiat Conversion Balance

Remember, prepaid crypto cards require you to load funds before spending. Your crypto is converted to fiat (USD/EUR) upon loading. Ensure your crypto was successfully confirmed on the blockchain and converted to fiat before attempting a purchase.

Merchant Restrictions

Some merchants (like gambling sites, specific car rentals, or adult services) block prepaid card BINs (Bank Identification Numbers). This is a network-level restriction set by the merchant's payment processor, not a bug with your OkiCard.

PRO TIP: Always account for FX (Foreign Exchange) fees. If your card is in USD and you buy something in EUR, the network will charge a conversion fee. A $100 balance might decline on a €92 purchase due to these invisible network fees.

Geo-Blocking & VPNs

Fraud prevention systems are sensitive. If your card is registered in Europe, but you are trying to make an online purchase using a VPN routed through Singapore, the transaction might be flagged as fraudulent and declined automatically.

How to Resolve

  1. Check your balance in the OkiCard Telegram Bot.
  2. Turn off your VPN and try the transaction again.
  3. Ensure you have at least 3-5% extra balance to cover potential FX fees or pre-authorization holds.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Some subscription services run a $0 or $1 pre-authorization check. Ensure you have enough balance to cover both the check and the actual subscription cost.
